The High Street in 1953.  We would love to know who took this photo, which is my personal favourite.

Investigations into Coronation year in Worle, have so far taken me to:

Old issues of the Mercury, minutes of the Borough Council, minutes of Worle Cricket Club, programmes of Worle Old Boys football club, members' photograph albums

I need : copies of the Parish magazines for 1953, any documentary evidence you have, and of course your personal memories.

I am in the process of producing

  • an brief index of daily village events in 1953 for reference
  • a page-a-day diary for the year - the aim for this is to have entries on every page
  • a set of factual pamphlets on a wide variety of themes, titles thus far include 'Accidents and Emergencies', 'British Legion Carnival', Worle's Representative at Westminster'.  I hope to produce a set of 50 or more of these to cover all aspects of village life.
  • My book, '1953: Life in Worle' is now complete and printed.
